UAE says goodbye to a hero sonDubai: First Lieutenant Tarek Mohammad Al Shehi, who was killed while on duty on Monday, was buried on Tuesday in his home village of Sha’am, as Bahrain announced the arrest of 25 suspects in connection with the blast, which killed two Bahraini policemen and the Emirati officer.

After his body was brought on a special flight to Ras Al Khaimah, prayers for Al Shehi were performed by Lt. General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. His Highness Shaikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, among others attended the funeral rites.

Shaikh Saif condemned the heinous act stressing the need to fight terrorism in all its forms, wherever it exists. Ahmad Al Shehi, a close friend of the victim, told Gulf News that Tarek was known for his high morals, hard work, devotion and commitment to fulfilling his duties.

In Manama, ministers at an extraordinary meeting pledged to “take the necessary measures to eradicate terrorist groups and those who support them,” Bahrain News Agency (BNA) said.

The government asked the Interior Ministry “to carry on relentlessly its combat against terrorism,” it said.

The foreign minister was tasked with placing the terror groups and their supporters on the international lists of terror, the cabinet said. The justice, Islamic affairs and endowments minister was told to monitor all political societies, religious platforms and preachers who resort to speeches of hatred and violence.

Monday’s explosion was the most serious attack on the security forces in terms of casualties since the protests against the Bahraini government began in February 2011.
